Lets Travel Australia - Hostels in disgrace.

Hostels on my disgrace page are here because they have been continually reported to be way below standard and often have advertising that is not at all truthful. No listing is simply put here because of one or two reports, I go to see them for myself or have people I trust go. These are places which deserve to be listed.

The Oslo Hotel, St Kilda, Melbourne- If ever a hostel had advertising that was deceitful- this place is the one! They claim people all over the world love the Oslo. Sea views is another claim- yeah, right- from the top of the chimney maybe. It is dreadful, and that is being kind. I used to deliver my tour brochures here and would leave the place feeling I needed to be disinfected. It sent shivers down my spine the moment I entered the place, the folk on the reception desk did nothing to change that feeling either.

Carlton Hotel, Bourke street Melbourne- This place is absolutely disgusting. Filthy and unsafe. The manager told me it was the backpackers who made the kitchen such a mess! I was angry at that as it was actually years of accumulated filth. The sheets on beds were definitely not cleaned and locks and security were of a very low priority to the owners of the place.
