To buy your own or opt for a rental car ? Good question! If you are going to travel in Australia for more than a couple of months, then buying a car is a sensible option.

You can look on notice boards in backpacker hostels for vehicles being sold by other backpackers. Often some good deals can be made when fellow travellers are needing to catch flights out of Australia and are really keen to sell their car. Please be careful though as some vehicles may have been driven all over Oz without any maintenance, this could lead to big trouble.

I recommend Travellers Auto Barn if buying a vehicle as they give you all the advice needed with regards to legal requirements. This takes the headache out of having to find out the rules, regulations and possible traps when buying vehicles in Australia.

How about getting a campervan to relocate for a company?

This is a fantastic way to get about. Companies often need to have vehicles relocated and will charge a nominal fee and usually give you just enough time to do the trip without rushing. You may be able to take a vehicle from Darwin back to Cairns or Melbourne to Sydney.... this gives you extra options whilst planning your adventure in Australia!
