Backpacker hostels and Youth Hostels are every where in Australia. Quite often courtesy buses are at the airports ready to collect travellers and take you to their door, makes life very easy. Choose from a wide variety of hostels in any of our cities, by beaches, in the rainforest, the desert and Australia even has hostels and campgrounds underground in South Australia. Some hostels are geared up for a party and offer travellers loads of entertainment and others are offering a chilled out, relaxed atmosphere. Many hostels have family rooms too, wonderful for anyone travelling with kids. The websites listed on the following pages will indicate the type of atmosphere they have created, it's your choice!

A word of caution though. As in any country you might travel through, thieves can operate. It is wise when sharing dorms to never leave your valuables under your pillow when going for a shower etc. Take advantage of any hostel safe, if available. It comes down to common sense of course.
